Good news for homeowners up and down the country, as they are being given the green light to build larger extensions without planning permission.

With over 110,000 extensions completed since 2013 under the previously temporary rule, this now permanent ruling means homeowners can erect a single-storey rear extension on their property of up to 6 metres for terraced or semi-detached homes or 8 metres for detached homes. However, neighbouring houses, will still have to be consulted and have the ability to raise any objections.
Housing minister Kit Malthouse commented “families can now grow without being forced to move and these measures will help families extend their properties without battling through time-consuming red tape.”
