Meet Tom, he’s one of our Carpenters at Abbey & Lyndon Builders, Redditch. We thought it would be good to show what a day in the life within our workforce is like, find out how they got into the industry, what they do, and tips on working in their fields.

When did you start working at Abbey & Lyndon?
It’s been 3 years now. Time’s going too quickly – it’s true what they say ‘time flies when you’re having fun’.
Before working at Abbey & Lyndon, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I’ve been lucky enough to star alongside Nick Knowles and the team on DIY SOS which has been great fun. Oh and I’ve worked in a coffee shop too.
What is your role at Abbey & Lyndon?
I’m a carpenter by trade with the role is very diverse. I like to get involved and assist with other trades too to gain as many skills as I can.
Detail what an average day in the life at Abbey & Lyndon is like?
Busy, busy, busy….. It’s non-stop and no 2 days are the same. From working in peoples homes to larger building projects I can be repairing or constructing frameworks; building bespoke cupboards from fitted furniture & kitchens to bathrooms and shelving; to floorboards and general fixings.
What key skills have you developed so far in your role?
Building customer relationships, problem-solving and having to think on my feet.
How would you describe yourself as an individual?
Reliable & Confident.
What do you love/enjoy most about your job?
It’s very diverse and I get immense job satisfaction when a project is complete thinking “Hey, I’ve done that”.
